DESCRIPTION:
A gut renovation of an apartment along Central Park South. Renovated for 2 brothers around the idea of creating a space for the study math, science, and the arts.
2 volumes were created, separated by a shared corridor, kitchen, and living/dining space. Each volume contain a study space, a bedroom, a bathroom for each brother. Off the entry, a gallery space with walls to display their collection of hanging art, along with a niche to display a favorite sculpture. In the shared living/dining space, a sound dampening wall was designed and built based on the golden triangle. The galley kitchen reminds the brothers about “food science” with the map of a folding protein from physicist Francesco Rao’s research, and beakers to hold their favorite snacks.
Above the dining table hangs Paper Planes, a light fixture designed and fabricated with folded steel. This squadron of planes is in the "flying V" formation. For more information on Paper Planes, contact lights@studiokca.com
